Round 2 of the AR Chess Academy Classical Tournament did not disappoint as 15 out of the 16 games played were decisive!

Out of 34 registered players only 15 are FIDE-rated which means there’s a great opportunity for unrated players to gain their first rating at this event. According to the FIDE Rating Regulations: a player new to the list will have a rating published once they’ve played at least 5 games against rated opponents (these games can be across multiple tournaments within a 26-month period) and their performance meets the minimum-rating floor (currently 1400 for standard rating). Super news for the chess community in Riyadh.

Round 2 also marked the debut of our top seed, Sameh Sadek, who took a bye in the first round of the tournament. Making his first appearance on the board this weekend, Sameh delivered a clean, positional victory, showcasing the kind of patient and strategic play that sets the tone for the rest of the tournament. You can replay the game below - it’s well worth a look for anyone who appreciates the art of quiet domination.
Today’s games will begin at 18:30 at our academy facility in Al Olaya, Riyadh.
