We’re officially past the halfway mark of the AR Chess Academy Classical Tournament, and the leaderboard is beginning to take shape. With three rounds remaining, every point counts! Tactics are rampant and players are giving it their all - let's see who's in the lead...

Garayev Seizes the Initiative


In the most anticipated game of Round 4, Tunar Garayev (1740) made a powerful statement by defeating top seed Adeem Mohammed Al-Dosari (1817), who had been leading the tournament alongside him with a perfect score. With this win, Tunar becomes the sole leader of the tournament on a flawless 4/4. Despite being a pawn down the black pieces, Garayev finds an incredible tactic on move 27. Can you spot it?

Tunar now heads into Round 5 with the black pieces against Shahan Abu Sayeed, the only player close behind on 3.5/4.


While all eyes were on the top board, several other games in Round 4 delivered exciting moments including board 2 between Shahan Abu Sayeed (1634) and Maitha Alotaibi (1600):
